Introduction

This program offers a complete learning path from drone fundamentals to hands-on flight, regulatory knowledge, Python programming, and drone assembly. Ideal for learners aiming to earn the Transport Canada Basic Pilot Certificate and develop technical UAV skills.

Course Curriculum

  • Section 1: STEM & Aviation Fundamentals (6 hrs)
    Covers fundamental flight principles, aerodynamics, weather, and radio communications, alongside UAV hardware basics such as batteries, GPS, motors, and flight controllers, with real-world applications illustrating STEM concepts in drone technology.
  • Section 2: Basic Pilot Certificate Prep (20 hrs)
    Focuses on Transport Canada regulations, airspace classifications, and NOTAMs, combined with practical exercises including practice exams, flight log maintenance, map reading, and guidance on the certification application process.
  • Section 3: Mission Planning & Flight Practice (10 hrs)
    Teaches the use of Mission Planner software for waypoint mission setup, followed by outdoor autonomous and manual flight training, with performance evaluations and feedback to improve piloting skills.
  • Section 4: Python Programming for UAVs (10 hrs)
    Introduces Python programming from basics to advanced topics such as threads and functions, applying code to control drones via DroneKit or Tello, enabling logic-driven flight missions including takeoff, maneuvers, and return sequences.
  • Section 5: FPV Drone Experience (8 hrs)
    Explores FPV system fundamentals and simulator training, culminating in hands-on flight practice and challenge missions designed to build confidence and skill in first-person-view drone piloting.
  • Section 6: Drone Assembly & Tuning (15 hrs)
    Provides hands-on experience assembling drones with hardware soldering, flight controller configuration, safety inspections, test flights, and troubleshooting to build practical skills in drone maintenance and repair.
